| Welcome to Department of Social Work |
| Post Graduate Department of Social Work, Sacred Heart College (DSWSHC) was established in 1979 as the first Post Graduate Department of Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur, Vellore Dt which was then affiliated to University Of Madras. Probably this was the first Social Work programme in a rural area in the State of Tamil Nadu, India. It was the dream initiative of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), spearheaded by the department’s founder Rev. Fr. Joe Arimpoor SDB. The mission was to give priority to training rural students in Professional Social Work who would cater to the needs of their communities. |

| A Department with a Difference |
| Here, at the Department of Social Work, we do not concentrate only on the academic excellence of our Social Work students – we are going much further. We have evolved a triple strategy to Social Work Education comprising Social Work Theory, Social Work Practice and Social Work Research. The department has initiated many reach out projects and has undertaken major research and evaluation studies where the faculty members and students are actively involved. This serves in making social work education relevant and meaningful. |

| MSW Programme |
| The objective of this course is to prepare students for a career in Social Work through a two year Post Graduate programme. The course consists of four semesters. During the first year, the students undergo a generic programme on the primary and secondary methods of Social Work with limited inputs from allied subjects such as Sociology, and Psychology. In the second year the students branch out to the following specializations. |
